The key to charging your battery at home without using another car's working battery is to get a car charger device. They all work differently, but the steps below will serve as a general guide to get you started.

Pop the hood of your car to find where the battery sits. Look for the positive and negative terminals so you know which ends you will be attaching the charging clamps to. The red clamps go with the positive ends, and the black clamps are for the negative ones. They are also shown with plus and minus signs to help you differentiate between them. The charging device should remain unplugged and in the off position until the cables are set.

Turn on the car charger to deliver a complete charge to the car battery. It may take several hours to charge completely and should be left uninterrupted. Remove the clamps before unplugging the charger.
