Why Your Tire Pressure Light is Illuminated

When you’re driving down the road in Santa Barbara, CA and you see the tire pressure light illuminate, what does it mean? It’s best to be in the know so you can have it checked out, if necessary. At DCH Lexus of Santa Barbara, we’ll tell you some of the reasons why it might be on.

First, it’s important to know that the tire pressure monitoring system measures the PSI in the tire. If it’s too low or too high, it will send a signal to illuminate the light on your dash. Hotter and colder temperatures can affect the PSI for a short while. This might require adding or eliminating air in the tire.

Punctures and other damage can cause problems with the PSI, too. If there’s a puncture, you need to look at a patch or a tire replacement. Otherwise, it could be that there’s damage to the tire pressure sensor itself.
